Online Safety
The principles of our approach
Online safety lies at the heart of our approach to computing. Our approach has five key components:
(a) to use Education for a Connected World (ECW) as a starting point because it contains age-appropriate objectives that meet our children’s needs;
(b) to make sure that computing dovetails with PSHE because of the overlap in areas such as body image and bullying;
(c) to let teachers use their professional judgement about when to teach the online safety objectives so that they can be responsive to current issues that arise in their year group or in the online world more broadly;
(d) to involve outside agencies, especially our local PCSO, to visit children in school and to communicate with parents;
(e) to be alive to specific concerns as they arise (e.g. the Momo app in 2019) but, importantly, to equip our children with the skills that can be applied to any online interaction because we know that the online world our children are engaging with is constantly evolving.
